Every Name Tells A Story: A line through Blood

In the house built by my great great grandfather, Tan Hiok Nee (Tan Yeok Nee), I present two series.

From Portraits As History, I choose three images of myself and reflect how my family heritage has shaped me in ways that are and are not immediately identifiable.

I also present the second version of Family Leaves, which consists of chlorophyll prints of family photographs placed alongside articles on family members. The family articles are linked together by my clan book or (族譜), which enabled me to trace twenty-four generations from the first Tan of the Jinsha village (金砂村), Chao’an district, Guangdong, China to my son, Tan You Jun.
